Paul McCartney gave our bus WNO 481 its Wings. Its place therefore in the history of rock and roll and the history of popular music culture is assured.
Help us to restore WNO 481 back to her beautiful best. This 1953 Bristol KSW 5G open top double decker with the unique provenance of being Paul McCartney’s 1972 Wings Tour Bus.
The bus was in a sorry state after 24 years under the blazing Tenerife sun. It was in a private storage area in a ravine known only to very few, hidden from view. Vandalism had started to happen with windows broken and parts stolen. A positive note was that the desert conditions had actually helped to preserve the metal and kept the bus, though hidden from view, still visible if you knew where to look. A humid environment could have caused the metal to completely rust out and vegetation would have swallowed it. It could have been lost forever but our plucky bus like a cat may have ticked off a few lives but it wasn’t finished yet.
The restorers are ready and waiting to work extra hard for the cause so we need your help. Donate today, come on board. We would love you to join us for the next journey of The 1972 Wings Tour Bus; the restoration…. ding! … ding! plenty of room on top.
We are very much looking forward to the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Wings Over Europe Tour. The countdown to July / August 2022 has begun! Donate today, we would love you to be part of rock and roll history.
Paul McCartney gave WNO 481 its Wings, help us to restore those Wings.
APPEAL IN LENNON-McCARTNEY SONG TITLES
We couldn’t just “LET IT BE” and “LIVE AND LET DIE”. WNO 481 has had many’s “A HARD DAY’S NIGHT” with all those wonderful “DAY TRIPPERS”. “MAYBE I’M AMAZED” to see “THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD” she travelled “YESTERDAY”. How cool it will be to secure her future to see her once more on another bus-life “MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR”. So, the message “FROM ME TO YOU” is that “WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS” “WE CAN WORK IT OUT”. “YOU MAY SAY I’M A DREAMER” and “ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE” and money “CAN’T BUY ME LOVE” but listen, “DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET” here’s where love and money can “COME TOGETHER”. The restoration team will need to work “EIGHT DAYS A WEEK” and need funding. If the funding comes through she says you will receive in return “ALL MY LOVING” because “SHE LOVES YOU” and you know that can’t be bad.
Fund us today – this is your opportunity to help rebuild 67 years of beautiful bus design history PLUS coming up to 50 years of rock and roll history on wheels. “HELP” WNO 481 “GET BACK” to where she once belonged.
– Tom and Team WNO 481
The importance of WNO 481, this 1953 Bristol KSW / ECW open-top bus cannot be overstated. This authentic, iconic, actual living 50 years of rock and roll history is surely without equal. This is not like a car or truck seen in a movie where they may use multiple vehicles during filming.
This is a true ONE-OFF this is THE ACTUAL UNIQUE bus that is in all the 1972 Wings Over Europe tour videos. The bus that Paul McCartney chose, had painted, that he entrusted himself, his family and his band on to for his first European tour after the break up of The Beatles. Paul chose this bus, the transport of the people, because he wanted to get back to his ‘band on the road’ roots after the heady days of The Beatles, the limos etc.
The biggest rock star in the world, the rock star of the people, chose this bus, WNO 481, to be video-ed on and carried across Europe on with his family and his new band.
25 cities, 25 concerts, 9 countries and two months on WNO 481 and all in the glare of the fans and the world’s media watching and recording. It is said that Paul wrote classics My Love and James Bond theme song Live and Let Die on the bus. 50 years of rock and roll living history on wheels, the chosen one and only, the best. Our plucky, indomitable bus may have ticked off a bus-life or two but she refused to die. With your help today she can soon get back on the road and roll on July/August 2022 that marks the 50th anniversary of that 1972 Paul McCartney’s Wings Over Europe Tour.
Some donors will get special mention on the 1972 WINGS TOUR BUS RESTORATION ROLL OF HONOUR that will be fitted to the bus and travel everywhere with it. Sir Paul will receive a printed copy of it.
