BECOME PART OF THE LEGEND

Help restore WNO 481, the 1953 Bristol KSW / ECW 5G open top double-decker bus – more famously known as the 1972 Wings Tour Bus.

The 1972 Wings Tour Bus carried Paul McCartney, family and Wings to 25 concerts in 25 cities in 9 countries across Europe, racking up over 12,000 kilometres / 7,500 miles with the biggest rock star on the planet, earning its place in rock and roll history.
The invitation in The Beatles, Magical Mystery Tour inspired artwork says, “We come in peace, we come to play, we come to have a good time, we Come Together so join us.”
The tour was hotly pursued by the world’s media because this was Paul’s first major tour after the break up of The Beatles.
For two months July and August 1972 WNO 481 was the most famous bus in the world.
In its time on Facebook the 1972 Wings Tour Bus has gained over 1,700 Facebook Followers and some videos have topped over 16,000 views.
48 years after that tour it would seem that the 1972 Wings Tour Bus is still the most famous bus in the world.
And talking of invitations they have come flooding in for the bus to make appearances at bus rally’s, visit and even go on extended loan periods to museums, take part in charity events and concerts… the 1972 Wings Tour Bus has even been booked to star at The Classic Motor Show at the huge NEC, National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK. Discussions are ongoing about bringing the bus to re-create the 1972 tour across Europe and the USA is also on the horizon for the future …but there’s a problem…

WNO 481 needs restoration following years of neglect, quietly forgotten in a dusty ravine in Tenerife.

Our goal is to bring the bus back to its glorious best. Representing 67 years of classically beautiful automotive ‘transport of the people’ heritage and approaching 50 years of rock and roll art and history on wheels.

This is how it will look when restored…..and we need your help.

WNO 481 is a living, mobile museum on wheels patiently waiting to be restored to delight the people, the fans and future charitable fundraisers. The bus will travel far and wide and has already received messages of goodwill and invitations to appear, not only at very special events but also to spend time on loan to a variety of museums across the country. A list of some of these events and venues, including the Classic Motor Show at NEC in 2021, is at the bottom of the page and on the website.

The bus is back in the UK and restorers are ready and waiting to work extra hard to bring it back to life but we need your help. Hop on board and contribute today, there are choices galore! Join us for the next chapter in the story of The 1972 Wings Over Europe Tour Bus; the restoration. Ding ding! – plenty of room on top!
